LOVECRAFT, HOWARD PHILLIPS
BIOGRAFI
1890: Født den 20. august i Providence, Rhode Island som enebarn af den omrejsende sælger Winfield Scott Lovecraft og Sarah Susan Phillips Lovecraft.
1893: Faderens psykotiske sammenbrud og efterfølgende indlæggelse på Butler hospital i Providence, hvor han bliver indtil sin død den 19. juli 1898. Lovecraft ser aldrig sin fader igen og tilbringer en større del af sin barndom hos den velhavende morfar Whipple Van Buren Phillip.
1898: Opdagelse af Edgar Allan Poes forfatterskab.
1904: Whipple Van Buren Phillips' død. Familien Lovecraft mister deres økonomiske status og flytter til et lille hus på Angell Street.
1908: Nervesammenbrud kort tid før studentereksamen. Lovecraft afbryder sin skolegang uden at dimittere.
1913: Forfattelse af et kritisk brev til magasinet Argosy om forfatteren Fred Jackson, hvilket resulterer i en brevdebat, der vækker opmærksomhed om Lovecraft hos Edward F. Daas, formanden for United Amateur Press Association.
1914: Indtrædelse i United Amateur Press Association og begyndende amatørjournalistiske aktiviteter.
1915: Udgivelse af første nummer af Lovecrafts tidsskrift, The Conservative.
1917: Påbegyndelse af det egentlige skønlitterære forfatterskab.
1919: Moderens indlæggelse på Butler Hospital.
1921: Moderens død på Butler hospital. Lovecrafts deltagelse på en journalistkonference i Boston indleder en periode med rejser til Boston, New York, Portsmouth, Marblehead, Newport, Quebec, Charleston, New Orleans og St. Augustine.
1923: Indgåelse af aftale om udgivelser med Weird Tales.
1924: Vielse med Sonia Greene og flytning til New York City.
1926: Skilsmisse med Sonia Greene og tilbagevendelse til Providence.
1926-1937: Lovecrafts mest produktive litterære periode, om end han aldrig formår at forsørge sig selv gennem sit eget forfatterskab.
1933: Indflytning hos tanten Mrs. Gamwell på 66 College Street i Providence.
1936: Den nære ven Robert E. Howards selvmord finder sted den 11. juni. Lovecraft diagnosticeres med tarmkræft og lider af underernæring.
1937: Indlæggelse den 10. marts på Jane Brown Memorial Hospital i Providence grundet tiltagende smerter. Lovecraft dør af tarmkræft den 11. marts.
